ABOUT

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

My education and career began as an actor and evolved to teacher and therapist. Examining stories and what motivates people has always been fascinating to me. This curiosity naturally evolved to psychology and what drives behavior.  Specifically, the indivisible relationship of the body and mind, also known as somatic, informs all of my work. Massage therapy and Rolfing are hands-on therapy I've practiced since 1993. People who want to understand and explore the physical connection between life experiences and body sensations (i.e. blocks, pain, numbness) are drawn to somatic psychology work. As a person who trained in emotional expression and challenges of living, my diverse background and education integrates a number of dynamic approaches that are client centered.

I am a wife to a loving partner and a mom to an energetic fourth grader. I have enjoyed living all over the U.S. and in London, U.K.  Travel is a joy, as is fishing with my family. I contribute monthly to Somatic Psychotherapy Today, am a member of the American Psychological Association, and have training in yoga, birth support, movement therapies, breath, behavior, and more. I served for years as the Head of Movement for Actor Training at Northern Illinois University, and most recently taught graduate students at Roosevelt University.

OUR WORK TOGETHER

Working with groups and individuals through education for decades informs how I work with you. My expertise and research is in emotional intelligence, which includes skills of empathy, recognizing mental states of others, and emotional regulation.  These skills help people connect with others as they intend. Attachment theory and how our early relationships form how we operate are the foundation of interpersonal relationships. Together, we combine this work with body led therapy; sometimes the unspoken experience of the body can be the key to awareness and healing.   Through motion, talk, expression, sensations, and caring, we will investigate how to help you deliberately move forward.
